  1. How many hours do I have to be enrolled to live at the Rankin?

A resident of Rankin Housing must be enrolled at CSU and maintain a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. Residents scheduled to enroll during the next fall semester may stay during May without being enrolled provided they pay the appropriate rent. Students must be enrolled a minimum of 3 hours for summer semester to maintain residency at the Rankin.

  1. Do I have to be a Music, Art, or Theater major to live at the Rankin or Riverpark?

Music, Art, and Theater majors do have first priority until the deadline of March 1st. After the deadline all majors are allowed to be put on the waiting list.

  1. When is the application deadline?

The Rankin does not guarantee the availability of a room when the application is turned into the Housing Manager. There is not an application deadline; however, we strongly recommend applying early to be put on the waiting list.

  1. What is the Damage/Reservation deposit and Application Fee?

A damage/reservation deposit and a $25 non-refundable application fee is required in order for an application to be processed. The deposit will be kept until the students period of residency has ended. A refund will be issued if all conditions of the application have been met and after deductions have been made for damages or special cleaning, if needed. See application for information on deposit and cancellation.

  1. When can I move into the Rankin?

Generally check-in is held one week prior to classes beginning. If accepted into the Rankin you will receive the exact day and time in the mail.

  1. What is included in the rent fee?

Rankin rent includes full furnishings in each apartment, all utilities, cable, local phone service, and internet access. All apartments come with a couch, loveseat, end table, and coffee table in the living room. Each resident has a twin size bed, chest of drawers, desk and desk chair. The full kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, and dishwasher.

  1. What type of internet connection is at the Rankin?

All apartments in the Rankin have internet access. These are dedicated data lines (RESNET) so students can use the internet without tying up a phone line. Students are not allowed to use phone lines for internet access. There are no monthly or activation fees. However, students must supply an Ethernet card and a category -5 / RJ-45 cable to connect. Power strips with surge protectors are required for all computer systems for protection from storms and electrical surges.

  1. Do I have to have a meal plan?

The Rankin is furnished with full kitchens so a meal plan is not offered at the Rankin. Most residents choose to buy groceries and (attempt to) cook. If you are still interested in purchasing a meal plan contact Jessica at 706-568-2008. Music students ask about the special plan just for you!

  1. Is there shuttle access to the main campus?

There is a shuttle that runs from the Schwob School of Music to the main campus. Residents do not need a personal vehicle to enjoy downtown living. The shuttle runs every 15-30 minutes weekdays. If a resident does not have a vehicle, Metra Buses by the city government run daily.

  1. How are roommate assignments made?

Assignments are made on a first-come, first-serve basis, based on the date we receive your application and damage deposit. Rankin Housing staff reserves the right to re-assign students to other rooms if it is in the best interest of the overall program.

  1. Can I live with a friend of my choice?

While every attempt will be made to accommodate mutual roommate requests, assignments are made in the following priority order:
1) date of receipt of application and damage deposit
2) specific requests of the applicant
Each applicant must indicate the mutual roommate request on their application.

  1. Are the apartments Co-ed?

Individual apartments are gender specific, however, halls are co-ed.

  1. Can I have overnight guests?

Overnight guests, including Rankin residents, must be registered with the Housing Manager or Resident Assistant on duty. In addition, they must be approved to stay overnight by the Rankin Housing staff and the other residents of the apartment. You must complete an Overnight Guest Form. If this form is not completed, all non-residents must leave when visiting hours are over at midnight Sunday through Thursday, and 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

  1. Can I have pets?

Due to health, safety, and sanitation problems, no pets are allowed in the apartments or on the grounds. Small aquariums (10 gallons or less) with fish only, may be kept in an apartment, provided it is kept clean and free of leaks. No animals other than fish are welcome at the Rankin!

  1. How do I get on the waiting list?

To be placed on the waiting lists complete an application online or pick up an application from the Rankin Housing Office at 1004 Broadway, Columbus, GA. Return the application with a deposit check and a SEPARATE check for $25 for the application fee. The $25 application fee is non-refundable; however the deposit is refundable if you meet the requirements. See the application for deposit information.
